Digitally-fabricated ceramics.

These ceramic sculptures were born out of a development program based at The MakerSpace Foundation in Durban, South Africa.

They were first created in a digital form by local artists and then produced on a custom-developed 3D printing machine, which uses the latest technology to print clay.

Our artists have worked in collaboration with ONE, to develop a homeware range that creates timeless forms in a radically new way.

I'm interested in the INTERSECTION OF DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY, AND THE ANALOGUE HUMAN EXPERIENCE

I love working with people on projects that challenge and push limits. I’ve built machines that cut, paint, draw, carve, squeeze, and fly. I’ve created 3D printing machines. Some that print with light, some with heat, and the latest one that prints with clay.

I DRAW INSPIRATION FROM AFROCENTRIC GEOMETRY

My passion lies in being able to take idea, create concepts and develop them into physical 3D forms.

I draw inspiration from Afrocentric geometry and the simple forms of modernist conceptual artists to create beautiful products for the homeware industry.

I'M PASSIONATE ABOUT INNOVATION, AND CLAY

I’m an engineering intern with a passion for innovation. My work involves the production of high-quality 3D-printed clay objects. This includes the physical preparation of the clay, as well as the 3D design technical programming, and maintenance of the machines.

THE MEDIUM AND INSPIRATION FROM WHICH I CREATE IS ALWAYS CHANGING

I am fortunate to be able to produce art on a daily basis; whether it be with my retail clients, my personal projects or with my daughter; Lily, over the weekends.

I’m currently immersed in sneaker design, ceramics, and analogue synthesisers.

The Maker Space is a non-profit organisation, which leverages technology to develop unemployed youth in South Africa. We endeavour to unlock creativity in a physical and engaging way that improves society.

Among other successes, we won the Google impact prize in 2018 and were the headline feature of a 2021 CNN documentary. We run training programs for technically minded and creative young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
